UHM. Are You Sure I Have to Pay for That?

If your car requires pricey repairs around the holidays, do you have sufficient cash to cover it?

Is your only option to turn to the credit card with the exorbitant interest rate?

Give me a nod if money stresses you out.

Every day, emergencies occur.

Tuition rises, cars collide, pipes break, technology fails, relatives die, and life expects you to pay up.

Humans are in constant need of items that continue to keep their lives moving in a desired direction, but they don’t always have the necessary funds to cover their expenditures.

According to America Saves, “From 2008 to 2010, Americans with a savings plan with specific goals fell from 62% to 55%…and those who save for retirement at work fell from 55% to 49%.”

That means that nearly HALF of Americans are not saving their money for the future. That is approximately 155, 430, 210 people who will be in debt upon retirement.

These are embarrassing statistics.

As a college student and a hostess at a small restaurant, I do not make much money. Regardless, the money that I do earn, I save.

One effective way of saving money for me is using the envelope system. It’s simple, efficient, and is a constant reminder of your financial goals.

The first thing I do is make a list of my financial goals, the amounts needed, the deadlines, and how much I’m going to put away per paycheck/month. Some examples are: travel, groceries, car repairs/maintenance, clothes, entertainment, and gifts.

So, it would look like this:
These are categories that are beneficial when using a cash method.

Savings for investments, school, and IRA should be managed through a bank account.

If you use this system for a couple of months, and you are fortunate enough to see your savings increase in your selected categories, you will receive a feeling of security and wealth.

You will be prepared for the annoying, little emergencies that life so graciously hands to you.

Most importantly, stress will get a big kick right out of the door.

You Did WHAT With Ribbon?!

I made a tree!
Mhm, a cute, little Christmas ribbon tree.

Here it is again in a lovely, little display...

&it's conveniently located next to my holiday takeout boxes for Christmas treats!

I started here with a Styrofoam cone, straight pins, a glue gun, and LOTS of ribbon (Black Friday at Joann's AND Michaels!)

I cut the ribbon into different size strips & looped them in half, glued the ends, and started sticking them on the cone from the bottom up. I only used the straight pins for the bottom layer to get a sense of where I wanted to place them.

I got the takeout boxes from Smart & Final in a pack of a million for like five dollars. I used a hot glue gun to secure them & I'm excited to give these cute dessert holders to friends & family.

Want more details on how to make the ribbon tree?

Maybe I Should Write...Tomorrow

In my life, there has always been an extreme love of writing, of wanting to be real in all aspects of my writing, and in wanting to produce a lot of it.

It has come to my attention that...well...writing is hard.  It seems as if there is a constant voice in the back of my head telling me that no one is going to enjoy what I'm saying or that my thoughts aren't clever or quippy enough.

What do they call that again? Self disempowerment? Is that even a word? Well, it's something along those lines.

While that is the root of my writing issue, and I am more than positive that I am not the only person in the world who deals with this, there are many other problems that came to fruition after I decided to start a blog.

I was excited. I was ambitious. I was ready to capture the audience of the world wide web...and I had nothing to write about.

Sure, I would do a blog post here and there, but I lacked consistency, vision, and goals for my blog.

Alas, I had found my next blockade in the online writing world.

As a devoted social media type person, I am constantly scouring the web via my Google reader to find enlightening articles by experts in all sorts of fields. At least once a day, I come upon an article about improving your writing, writing with consistency, and writing creatively. I take note of them, happily tweet them, and move on with my life.

I'M WASTING ALL OF THIS USEFUL INFORMATION!

It's really quite silly.

In order to improve my writing, meet personal goals, and get a blog following, I am going to outline goals.

Yes, today & yes, right now.

CHER'S WONDERFUL BLOG GOALS

1. Write one blog post a week for the next year (December 2011)
2. Create a following of at least 20 people who are genuinely interested in what I have to say in the next year (December 2011)

&If you're sitting at your computer desk(or even via blackberry/droid/all other smart phones in this crazy technological world), and you're thinking...well, I do that too, then I am here to direct you to two resources that I will be using to fuel my motivation in the upcoming twelve months of strenuous blog writing.
Enjoy!
